Star Trek 50th Anniversary

Friday, September 9, 2016 - 8:03am - As any “Trekkie” will know, September 2016 is the 50th Anniversary of the television series, "Star Trek". We have pulled together a selection of resources relating to science, television, and media, for a display in celebration of this fifty year milestone. You can find this display located on the 2nd floor next to the Book Bistro cafe. Special thanks to Library Dean Chris Cox, who loaned us some pieces from his personal collection for this display. And on that note, “Dif-tor heh smusma” or for those who cannot speak Vulcanese, "Live Long and Prosper”.

It Takes an Iowan

Wednesday, September 7, 2016 - 4:15pm - The UNI Museum is hosting "It Takes an Iowan" at the Marshall Center School from September 9th- October 8th. This exhibit, provided by Silos and Smokestacks, focuses on Iowans as leaders in the ongoing endeavor to provide food for the nation and the world. This exhibit will be open Tuesday through Saturday, 10am-4pm at the Marshall Center one-room school house on the corner of W 23rd and Indiana St. It Takes An Iowan was created by Silos & Smokestacks National Heritage Area (SSNHA). SSNHA is one of 49 federally designated heritage areas in the nation and is an affiliated area of the National Park Service. Attend the Open Textbook Network Workshop

Friday, September 2, 2016 - 8:09am - The University of Northern Iowa Office of Provost and Executive Vice President for Academic Affairs, Center for Excellence in Teaching and Learning, and the Rod Library are pleased to announce a workshop lead by the Open Textbook Network. This workshop introduces the concept of open textbooks, their benefits, and how to find and incorporate them into courses. When: Friday, October 21, 2016, Time 1:00 to 3:00 p.m. Where: Library Room 287 [Old browsing room located on main floor] Participants are asked to write a short review of an Open Textbook Library textbook in their field following the workshop.
