Faculty-Staff Publications

The Library acquires book-length publications and non-print materials created, edited, or produced by University faculty and staff on a selective basis, as they meet established general and subject-specific collection development policies. The decision to acquire a title is based on factors other than the author's affiliation with the University.

If a book written or edited by a member of the University faculty or staff is offered to the Library as a gift, it ordinarily will be accepted and added to the collection. The Library ordinarily will not accept gifts of locally produced course outlines or collections of readings for the permanent collection. Gifts of non-print materials will be accepted if they meet format-specific collection development guidelines.

All faculty and staff publications, whether acquired through purchase or gift, will be integrated into existing collections as appropriate. Signed works, special editions, and other materials of bibliographic or textual significance will be offered to the Special Collections librarian for review and possible incorporation in Special Collections and University Archives.

UNI Faculty Publications Collection

The Library maintains a Faculty Publications Collection of materials published mostly within the last five years that were authored or edited by UNI faculty.  The collection is based largely on donations.  It is housed in the ScholarSpace and does not circulate, although 3-hour in-library use only is permitted.  The collection is regularly reviewed and older items are transferred to Special Collections and University Archives.

The Library does not acquire copies of individual articles written by faculty or staff; pamphlet literature may be acquired on a selective basis in accordance with established collection development policies. Journals edited by faculty or staff may be acquired on subscription if the title meets established collection development criteria.
