Wikipedia Programming Graduate Assistant

Position Title

  • Graduate Assistant, Fine & Performing Arts Collection

Reports to:  

  • Angela Pratesi,Fine & Performing Arts Librarian, Rod Library Learning & Research Division

Terms of Employment:

  • For the fall semester: 10 hours per week beginning August 26, 2019 and ending December 20, 2019.  Does not include the week of Thanksgiving Break.
  • For the spring semester: 10 hours per week, beginning January 13, 2020  and ending May 8, 2020.  Does not include the week of Spring Break.


  • Half-time assistantship salary for 2019-20 is $2,642 per semester.
  • Salary will be prorated weekly for late start.
  • Graduate Assistants may qualify for in-state tuition and fees.
  • Graduate Assistants receive University holidays and do not work during Thanksgiving break or Spring Break.

Position Description:

  • Complete an intensive series of training modules and readings on Wikipedia and library research/information literacy
  • Edit and create Wikipedia articles on underrepresented topics
  • Provide training and assistance to participants of Rod Library Wikipedia Edit-a-thons
  • Assist in the planning and execution of diversity-focused Rod Library Wikipedia Edit-a-thons
  • Coordinate the creation of promotional materials with the library PR department
  • Collaborate with other library units, university departments, student organizations, and/or community organizations, as needed
  • Assist with the dissemination and analysis of post-event surveys
  • Other duties as assigned

Required Qualifications:

  • Must be a full-time, degree-seeking student in a UNI graduate program
  • Must be enrolled in 9 qualifying graduate credits each semester of assistantship
  • Maintain a UNI cumulative graduate GPA of at least 3.00.  A newly admitted graduate student must have at least a 3.0 GPA for undergraduate or previous graduate work of at least 8 graded credit hours.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in any field requiring library research and writing
  • Experience teaching, tutoring, or mentoring
  • Strong writing, editing, and professional communication skills
  • Knowledgeable or enthusiastic about Wikipedia, diversity, and/or information/library research
  • Organized
  • Self-directed
  • Proactive about asking questions and implementing feedback
