Historical Note

Albert E. Brown (1882-1968) received a Bachelor of Science degree from Baker University in 1909, a Master of Arts degree from Yale University in 1910, and a Ph. D. degree from the University of Iowa in 1931.  After having served as principal and superintendent in the public schools of Kansas and on the staff at Colorado State College, he joined the staff at Iowa State Teachers College in 1924 as Assistant Professor of Education.  He was advanced to the rank of associate professor in 1937 and to the rank of professor in 1938.  He served with emeritus status from 1952 until 1966, part of the time as archivist.
