Scope and Content
This collection consists of thirty athletics posters or placards, 11 inches X 7 inches. Each poster has athletics advice with a cartoon style drawing to illustrate that advice. For example, one poster reads: "Put 'em in a hole and keep them there!!" The cartoon drawing shows a fierce football player, with a club, standing over an opponent with only his head showing from a hole in the ground.
The poster series was printed by the School and Athletic Poster Company, Sioux City, Iowa, probably in about 1950. The posters were likely meant to be displayed in athletics offices and locker rooms as inspiration and incentive for coaches and players.
