Historical Note

Edward Valentin Jamosky was born on February 14, 1924, in Ladysmith, Wisconsin. He was a member of the United States Naval Academy's Class of 1946 and served in the United States Merchant Marine for two years. In 1950, he married Alice Merz and they had three children. Jamosky later graduated from the University of Wisconsin in 1952 with a master's degree in Russian and completed further study in his field from 1961-1965 at the University of Michigan.

Jamosky joined the faculty at the University of Northern Iowa in 1965 as an Assistant Professor of Russian. He retired from UNI in 1994. Additionally, he was a member of the U.S. Naval Institute, the American Civil Liberities Union, and the American Legion.

Jamosky passed away in May 2015.

Scope and Content

The Edward Jamosky Papers consist of underground and independent newspapers, magazines, newsletters, and miscellaneous other literature.  The materials cover several topics including socialism, democracy, Russian language and culture, and civil rights.

The newspapers listed alphabetically in the first group are those for which there are more than one issue.  The folder titled "Magazines and Newspapers" contains single issues of other newspapers and magazines, also listed alphabetically.  The folder titled "Papers" contains miscellaneous documents in the form of reports and pamphlets.
