Inventory

Box 1:  Entrance examination grade books, 1875-1945

In the first two volumes, 1876-1893 and 1893-1911, are found each student's name (entered alphabetically), the student's age, his/her grade average, the names of the exams taken, and the exam grades received.  The exams were taken each term with Term I being the Fall Term and Term II being the Spring Term.  The names are entered by Class A, B, C, etc. within each term.  Beginning with the 1886 Fall Term, the exam date for each student was entered as well as remarks related to individual students (county appointing each student, assignment, etc.) Toward the back of the first volume are the enrollment figures for the various terms as well as for the entire year.  Indication is made as to whether of not the student had either an undergraduate of a graduate grade card.  Starting with the 1907 Summer Term, birth dates are included as well.

In the volume dated 1911-1919 are lists of students interviewed in the Fall, 1911 including credits by examination (either passed of failed).  Students' names do not seem to follow and logical order.  This is true of the volume dated 1919-1945 as well.

Boxes 2-10:  High School credits accepted by the Committee on Entrance of High School Graduates, 1887-1910

In each folder, each student has a certificate from a secondary school or a request for admission to the Iowa State Normal School.  The forms include the student's name, the school of last attendance, subjects taken, number of terms in which subjects were taken, grades secured, textbooks used, and student number.  In some cases, correspondence from a principal, superintendent, or school president is also included.  These statements of credit are filed chronologically.
