John Howard (Jack) Jennett was born February 6, 1930, in Breda, Iowa. He received a B. A. in 1953 and an M. A. in 1959, both from Drake University. He taught at Lake City High School, 1954-1955; Morningside College, 1955-1961; and Buena Vista College, 1961-1962.
Professor Jennett joined the faculty of the State College of Iowa in September 1962 as an instructor and head coach of the track and cross country teams. He advanced in professorial rank to assistant professor in 1965 and associate professor in 1971. Professor Jennett attended the 1968 Summer Olympics in Mexico City. He resigned from the faculty in 1976 to enter private business. During his tenure at the University of Northern Iowa, Professor Jennett fielded strong teams and strengthened the university's track and cross country programs.
Scope and Content
Professor Jennett donated these papers to the University Archives in December 2007. While the collection is small, it does provide at least a glimpse at the coaching of track and field in the late 1960s. There is also a small amount of material relating to the 1968 Summer Olympics.
