Scope and Content

The library of what is now the University of Northern Iowa made a practice of binding performance and celebratory programs from about 1887 until about 1947, when the library ceased that practice.  That work appears to have been very thorough.  The bound volumes concentrate on events staged by students or in which students participated.  Consequently, these bound volumes approach exhaustive coverage of literary society sessions, alumni meetings, debates, concerts, baccalaureate ceremonies, commencements, festivals, and other events.  These volumes provide an excellent look at campus, and especially student life.

In addition to the bound volumes, there is a small number of unbound programs in Box 8 from events after 1947.  These loose programs have drifted into the University of Northern Iowa Archives over a long period of time.

Other programs, focused on particular areas, may be found in collections relating to Theatre UNI, the School of Music, the Lecture-Concert Series, and the Artists Series.
