Roger Leavitt served on the governing boards of UNI from 1900 until 1915 and also as its Secretary from 1919 until 1937.
Scope and Content
Nearly all of the material in this collection is pasted to 6" X 9 1/2" sheets of notebook paper. There are several hundred items in the collection. It was apparently stored in the Business Office until April 1965, when it was transferred to the University Archives. The material is arranged in roughly chronological order. To help preserve the originals and to make the material more accessible, Public History intern Will Dodd made a photocopy of the material in September 2004. All material, with the exception of multi-page programs, was copied. The material in this collection was apparently assembled by Mr. Leavitt himself. The collection is especially strong in material relating to the Coordination Controversy of 1912-1913, which would have reduced UNI to a two year institution. Roger Leavitt was a strong opponent of this proposed measure.
