Historical Note

This collection came from the Museums to the University of Northern Iowa Archives in the spring semester of 2013.

Scope and Content

This collection consists of records pertaining to "A T. Rex Named Sue", an exhibit presented by the University of Northern Iowa Museums in the spring of 2005.  The centerpiece of the exhibit, a replica of a Tyrannosaurus rex fossilized skeleton, was furnished by the Field Museum in Chicago.

This series furnishes an in-depth look at preparations, marketing, and presentation of the exhibit.  The documentation includes correspondence, committee files, programs, programming files, contracts, financial information, drawings, and photographs relating to the exhibit.  The collection is especially strong in areas relating to marketing and publicity.

Researchers should be aware that there is some duplication between and among files.  For example, general publicity files might include information about a special event, such as a lecture.  But there may also be a  file relating specifically and only to that lecture event.  The various large staff notebooks are good sources of information for overall views of the exhibit process.
