Tuesday, October 18, 2016 - 8:14am - Open Access Week, a global event now entering its eighth year, is an opportunity for the academic and research community to continue to learn about the potential benefits of Open Access.   What is Open Access? Open-access (OA) literature is digital, online, free of charge, and free of most copyright and licensing restrictions. What makes it possible is the internet and the consent of the author or copyright-holder.   OA is entirely compatible with peer review, and all the major OA initiatives for scientific and scholarly literature insist on its importance. October Digital Image Exhibit

Thursday, October 13, 2016 - 9:34am - The university community is invited to view the Bits and Pieces digital image exhibit by Bailey Higgins on the Learning Commons Exhibition Wall, inside Rod Library. The exhibit area is located on the main floor of the library and will be on display until October 31.   Bits and Pieces  Bailey Higgins is a senior at the University of Northern Iowa, majoring in Graphic Design and Interactive Digital Studies (IDS). She recently had the privilege of leading the creative direction for the IDS Practicum project, Imagine Iowa. Megan Oakleaf will be presenting about national trends related to the value of academic libraries and its role in the institutional mission of universities. The presentation will be followed by a discussion on how Rod Library can help meet UNI's institutional goals. Megan Oakleaf is an Associate Professor of Library and Information Science in the iSchool at Syracuse University.  She is the author of the Value of Academic Libraries Comprehensive Review and Report and Academic Library Value: The Impact Starter Kit and has earned recognition and awards for articles published in top library and information...
