Antique Word Games Night

Monday, November 21, 2016 - 4:49pm - Tired of sitting in front of a computer? Itching to focus on anything other than your finals? Join us in the UNI Special Collections (Rod Library, third floor) for two hours of historical word games, including Fictionary, “Animal, Vegetable, Mineral”, Doublets (a game invented by Alice in Wonderland author Lewis Carroll), Authors, and a few thousand-year-old, Anglo-Saxon riddles. Feel free to come and go as you like on December 7th from 3:00 to 5:00 p.m.

New Book Lists: Award Winners & Thanksgiving Stories

Tuesday, November 15, 2016 - 3:47pm - We have two new resources available to help you find great books in the Youth Collection.  The Youth Literature Award Winners guide includes hundreds of books that have won (or been honor books) for many significant children's literature awards. Many thanks to Youth Collection Graduate Assistant Erin Borchardt for assembling this guide! We also have a new short list of Thanksgiving stories to help you prepare for classroom readalouds or family gatherings this November. Milestone- UNI ScholarWorks receives over 100,000 downloads

Friday, November 11, 2016 - 7:48am - UNI ScholarWorks, UNI's institutional repository reaches 100,000 downloads.  The purpose of UNI ScholarWorks is to collect, preserve and make available the digital research and creative and scholarly output from the University of Northern Iowa (UNI) community.The repository contains articles, journals, image galleries, theses, dissertations, conferences, etc.  A few examples of new peer-reviewed journals and collections are listed below. Veterans Day Program & Photo Exhibit

Wednesday, November 9, 2016 - 4:26pm - Everyone is invited to attend a program on Veterans Day, November 11, at 3 p.m. in front of the UNI Military & Veteran Honor Photo Exhibit, on the main floor of Rod Library. It will be a time for reflection, camaraderie, and support for those who are such an important part of our UNI family. The program will be hosted by UNI Military and Veteran Student Services. A photo exhibit honoring UNI's service members and veterans will be on exhibit inside Rod Library through the month of November. Rare Books "Petting Zoo"

Wednesday, November 9, 2016 - 4:11pm - When was last time you touched a 15th century manuscript? Or traced the signature of Carl Sandburg? Or looked at early 1900s photographs of whaling ships through an antique stereopticon? Encounter the treasures from our Special Collections and Archives through an up-close, interactive exhibit on Wednesday, November 16th from 3:00 p.m.- 4:30 p.m. We ask that you arrive with clean, dry hands (no lotion or hand sanitizer, please) and bring your sense of wonder. Feel free to visit Special Collections and University Archives during their new extended hours! Monday-Thursday 8:00 a.m. - 6:00 p.m. Friday 8:00 a.m. -4:00 p.m. Sunday Noon - 4:00 p.m.
