#MeetTheStaff - Angie Cox

Angie Cox

There’s someone who you should know and her name is Angie Cox, Assistant Professor of Library Services/Instruction & Liaison Librarian. Angie teaches a relatively new course called Beyond Google and is the librarian liaison for a many departments across campus, while also working one-on-one with students in need of research help.

One of her favorite aspects about working at Rod Library is working with people, typically students, and having the face-to-face interactions. “I love connecting with students and faculty on a one-on-one level where I can get to know them, and help them get through areas that they are stuck,” said Angie.

“[The library] is a space where a person to meet up with a group for a project, professor in the Book Bistro, friend for coffee, or research librarian when you need help with a paper.” This is what Angie loves about the library overall. “No longer is the library the place you go to just to study in silence; we offer so much more to the UNI community and beyond by providing inviting, collaborative spaces for individuals to succeed.”

When it comes to her favorite spot in the library, Angie’s immediate answer is “many!” She adds though, that it depends on what she’s working on. When she’s working with students, she loves meeting in the Learning Commons for its interactive and stimulating ambience. As for when she needs to focus and work on her own research, Angie likes the 4th floor study rooms for its quiet atmosphere.

If there’s one thing Angie wants you to know, it’s to not be afraid to ask for help. "As an undergraduate and graduate student, I always felt I had to figure things out on my own, and I never asked for help. I want people, students particularly, to know that it’s okay to ask for help. Asking for help means there is an opportunity to collaborate and exchange ideas."
