Science (New York, N.Y. : Online) now available!

Friday, April 21, 2017 - 3:07pm -           Rod Library is now able to provide access to the online format of the journal Science, a publication of the American Association for the Advancement of Science which has been requested by members of the University community. A one-year subscription is being funded through one-time funds. We will be evaluating the use of the title during this period.  We previously have had only a print subscription and limited access to online content through selective databases.  The online version provides access to content from 1997 to the present.  Science in its online format may be accessed through OneSearch! under the entry... Additional study rooms now available on the third floor!

Friday, April 21, 2017 - 1:53pm - Eight student study rooms, located on the third floor near the main east stairs, are now ready for use, rooms 360-367. Each room is equipped with a table and two chairs, which is the perfect size for individual or small group study or collaboration. You may reserve the rooms for up to 3 hours at a time through Rod Scheduler. 

Iowa Meets China

Friday, April 21, 2017 - 1:19pm - Xiaoting Wang's visit is sponsored by UNI's Center for Multicultural Education, Office of International Programs, and Rod Library, which is privileged to exhibit his artwork during the visit. More about the artist. Mr. Wang has participated in CME's First Friday event on April 7 that celebrated Asian and Pacific Islander month. Wang performed multiple demonstrations and workshops on the art of Chinese calligraphy. Students participated and created traditional art on rice paper using authentic art brushes and paint from China. We have the Graffiti Wall for you to draw, doodle, write encouraging messages, and etc. from April 24th – May 4th.   To really relax, join us and La’ James International College for a little reflexology on Tuesday, May 2nd from 1:00-3:00 p.m. and Wednesday, May 3rd from 2:00-4:00 p.m.   P.E.T.P.A.L.S therapy dogs and cats are back by popular demand; they will be in the lobby from April 26-May 3rd from 11:00 a.m.-2:00 p.m.

Service-Learning project

Friday, April 14, 2017 - 8:48am - The video linked below was created by two sections of a Cornerstone course, taught by Rachel Morgan. Rod Library assisted students to do research as part of this project that investigated food insecurity in the Cedar Valley. Students made use of the research gathered in class presentations and writing assignments. The first-year students partnered with the NE Iowa Food Bank throughout the 2-semester course. The project was conceived by Rachel Morgan in collaboration with a Food Bank staff member, Mike Knipp, during the annual Service-Learning Institute for faculty. Trevor Dawes to visit Rod Library--April 18th

Thursday, April 13, 2017 - 11:25am -   On Tuesday, April 18, Trevor Dawes will be visiting Rod Library. Dawes is the May Morris Librarian and vice provost for libraries and museums at the University of Delaware, and he served as co-chair of the American Library Association's Task Force for Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion.   Dawes will be visiting with a variety of campus groups to discuss his work on the Task Force and to talk about the role of libraries as advocates for diversity and inclusion.   At 11 a.m., there will be a presentation in the Rod Library ScholarSpace for all interested members of the campus community. Game Board Drive

Monday, April 10, 2017 - 9:00am - Got any board games lying around? If you don’t play them, we’ll take them! The Rod Library is accepting donations of gently used card and board games. Your donations will allow others to share the fun in the library. Games should be in good condition and complete. Games not added to the collection will be given to a charitable organization. Please leave donations in the donation box in the Rod Library Learning Commons or in front of the Maucker Union Administrative Offices. You can also drop them off at the Earth Day Celebration Event (Union Courtyard) April 20 from 10:00 am - 2:00 pm.

I wanted a university education but with a small campus, and UNI gives me that. The campus was beautiful and quite inviting.
