Awaken Your Homecoming Spirit

Homecoming Week reminds us of the pride we take in our university, our students, and our traditions.  Have you ever considered how we capture and preserve those traditions so that they remain available to current and future students?

Rod Library’s University Archives preserves the history of the UNI in its collection of yearbooks, student newspapers, student magazines, departmental information such as faculty papers or course catalogs, and more.

Homecoming pictures from University Archives

In addition to the variety of documents, University Archives has over 200,000 photographs, which provide images of the people, activities, and physical landscapes of the UNI community throughout time.  The University Archives provides an important role of providing rich and unique primary source documents for students, faculty, journalists, and other researchers to use in their research.

And since UNI history is constantly being created, the University Archives actively collects its documents, images, and stories.  As part of the Homecoming Week celebration,  Rod Library is showcasing and collecting stories of Panther traditions, past and present.  Check out the Homecoming display on the main floor of Rod Library on Friday to see a selection of photographs, yearbooks, student news, film and more from UNI’s past.

Do you have a story to tell?  Join us from 1 p.m. - 7 p.m. on Friday, October 6, and share your story from your time at UNI.  University Archives, in collaboration with the UNI Alumni Association, will be recording short oral histories from Panthers as part of the Panther Pride:  Stories of the Past and Present project.  This project will add a rich layer to our collection of UNI history.  Not only will we collect stories, but we will collect the storytelling, too.  Celebrate your homecoming by sharing a bit of your history for the benefit of UNI’s future history-makers!

Do you have memorabilia that you’d like preserved for future researchers?  Donate it to Rod Library University Archives.
