Over 17,000 videos, including theatrical and independent releases, documentaries, international films, television shows, and training films, are now available through Kanopy, an on-demand web-based digital video delivery service licensed by Rod Library.
Producers whose films are available in the collection, include the BBC, Criterion Collection, Green Planet Films, Kino Lorber, New Day Films, and PBS. Titles are arranged in browsable subject (Environmental Sciences, Indigenous Studies, Mental Health) and thematic collections (LGBTQ Cinema, Leadership Training, Teacher Education Development), and include non-English titles. You can specify a genre or country of origin, search for a known title, and track a particular filmmaker.
How Can I Use Kanopy?
Video can be a great addition to existing course materials. Through Kanopy, students and faculty alike can find thousands of videos relevant to their studies and interests. These videos can be used in the classroom or while studying to create more vivid and memorable examples of what is being taught. You can include the link directly in your presentation. As usage of videos in class lectures and group presentations becomes increasingly more common, Kanopy has relevant material that is safe to use under copyright laws. Additionally, Kanopy offers closed captioning services for their videos, making them accessible to all.
