RodCon: Making Super Connections

With RodCon quickly approaching, it’s time to get excited about all of the fun activities that Rod Library is going to bring to comic lovers. We have some amazing events and activities planned for you this year, including a costume contest, video games, escape rooms, and prizes! This event is free, family-friendly, and open to everyone. Not only is RodCon a great event for UNI students and surrounding community members, but it is also a great way for Rod Library to impact people from all over the country and engage with area organizations.

These visitors include artists and vendors from across the state and even from Minnesota and California. Likewise, attendees come from far and near to visit RodCon, including Cedar Rapids, Des Moines, Mason City, Minneapolis, Chicago, Moline, and more. Drawing vendors and attendees to campus from across the country is a great opportunity for Rod Library to showcase what we do for our students as well as our community.

Another huge benefit of RodCon is the opportunity Rod Library has to collaborate with other UNI departments as well as area businesses and organizations. The UNI Departments of Communication Studies, Sociology, Anthropology, and Criminology, Theater Arts, Education, Art, and Chemistry as well as UNI STEM, UNI School of Applied Human Sciences, UNI School of Music, IT Digital Media Hub, UNI Museum, and various student groups all collaborated with Rod Library to bring RodCon to life. Additionally, organizations outside of UNI also played a huge part in making RodCon possible, including the Waterloo Public Library, Escape Cedar Valley, Limited Edition Comics & Collectibles, Copyworks, Video Games Etc, The Core, College Hill Partnership, Atlas Games, and the Cedar Falls Tourism & Visitors Bureau. These collaborations are invaluable ways for Rod Library to stay connected across the university and the Cedar Valley community as well as to showcase what Rod Library offers to students and community members.

Join us at RodCon on Saturday, April 7th from 10 A.M. to 4 P.M. for a day of panel discussions, speakers, games, crafts, vendors, and contests. For more information, visit the RodCon website or look at a complete schedule of events.
