Graduate students and faculty members have extended borrowing privileges on books from the stacks and government documents. Graduate students may check out these books until the end of the current semester, and faculty members until the end of the academic year. If another patron requests a book that is out on an extended loan, however, the extension is canceled and the book is recalled with a new due date. From one to three weeks will be allowed for the book's return, depending upon when it was originally checked out. (See Holds/Recalls/Searches). Items needed for Reserve are recalled immediately. All patrons are assessed a replacement fee and an non-refundable overdue fee, and billing fee for items not returned. For fine and billing information for students see borrowing-materials/loan-periods-fines. For fine and billing information for Faculty and Professional and Scientific staff see faculty-fine-rates.
The loan period for items in the Youth collection is 7 days. Patrons may renew items twice, each time for an additional 7 days. If an item is needed for a longer period, the patron may contact the Youth Collection staff to request an extended loan.Patrons may request an extended loan in person or by contacting the staff via e-mail (Sandra.Wilkens@uni.edu) or phone (319) 273-6167. The length of time granted for an extension is determined on a case by case basis.
Faculty and Professional and Scientific members with an end of the academic year due date, will need to physically bring their items back to the library to check them in and back out again if renewals are needed. This is to provide an opportunity to locate the material and determine a continued need. Online and phone renewals will not be available.
