Borrowing Materials

Welcome to the Library Services Desk! Discover how to borrow materials from Rod Library. We have over a million items in the library and more available online.

Most materials are available for use by anyone within the Library. Rod Library provides loan privileges to students, faculty, staff and UNI External Users* with a valid UID card, and community and alumni patrons with visitor cards that can be acquired at the Library Services desk.

*UNI External users include Visiting Scholars, Visiting Professors, Visiting Associate Professors, and Affiliated AmeriCorps members.

The Library Services Desk is open all hours that Rod Library is open - checkout services end 10 minutes prior to library closing. Call (319) 273-2838 for more information.

Borrowing Materials

You may borrow materials from the library using one of two methods:

UNI identification card
Get App

Faculty and Staff Proxy Check-Out

Faculty members and Professional and Scientific staff may authorize others to check out material in their name. The faculty member or Professional and Scientific staff person must fill out an authorization form. The patron who is checking out material must present his/her own UNI ID, not the faculty or staff members.

Checkout Item Limits

The following item checkout limits apply to these patron types:

Undergraduate Students	50 items
Graduate Students	75 items
Faculty and P&S	100 items
Merit Staff	25 items
Guests with library card	10 items

Courtesy Notices

All patrons will receive a courtesy notice reminder before the material is due via their UNI email account unless otherwise specified*. You may phone (319) 273-2838 to renew or, as long as the material is not overdue, renew via My Account.

Recalled items, items that have reached their renewal limit and periodicals may not be renewed. Videos/DVD's booked by another patron may not be renewed. Interlibrary loan material may not be renewed online. Please call (319) 273-2912 for information about the Interlibrary Loan Renewal policy.

The outside book drop located on the west side of Gilchrist Hall.
Through our book drop on the east (Maucker Union) side of Rod Library.
